In 2006, Susan Crawford, Cyberlaw Scholar and now Technology Policy Advisor to President Obama, launched the concept of One Web Day – a day for those in a position of power and influence, including Web Business owners, to consider what we can do to contribute to making the internet and world wide web more accessible – both for you as a web user and also as a website owner.
Taken from the official OneWebDay (OWD) website – www.OneWebDay.org – It’s like an Earth Day but for the internet. The idea behind OneWebDay is to focus attention on a key internet value, focus attention on local internet concerns (connectivity, censorship, individual skills), and create a global constituency that cares about protecting and defending the internet. So, think of OneWebDay as an environmental movement for the Internet ecosystem. It’s a platform for people to educate and activate others about issues that are important for the Internet’s future.

- Update or Upgrade Your Web Browser. Use a standards-compliant Web browser like Firefox or Opera. They’re free, fast, and protective of your privacy. And because they conform to Web development standards, they make things easier for people who make Web sites.

GET YOUR SITE ON GOOGLE (And Discover There’s a WHOLE LOT MORE than Just Adding Your Website to Google)

To kick things off, we have some great news! Inclusion in Google’s search results is free and easy; you don’t even need to submit your site to Google. Google is a fully automated search engine that uses software known as “spiders” to crawl the web on a regular basis – to find sites to add to their index. In fact, the vast majority of sites listed in their results aren’t manually submitted for inclusion, but found and added automatically when their spiders crawl the web.
However, if your site offers specialized products, content, or services (for example, video content, local business info, or product listings) AKA you’re own a Web Business, you can reach out to the world-wide-web by distributing your specialized knowledge and details of your products and services on the Google’s Search Results (known as SERPS). There are a number of ways to do that (more than just submitting your URL, which is what everyone tells you to do). Make sure you finish this entire article but go to Google Content Central right now and discover a world of great opportunities to get listed with Google. Bookmark this article page by us though so you can easily get back to it – there’s very important information on here you absolutely must know.
To determine whether your site is currently included in Google’s index, do a site: search for your site’s URL. For example, a search for [ site:google.com ] returns the following results: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Agoogle.com .

It’s fast approaching “Beer O’Clock” at Web Business Academy Head Office … so it’s time for our Friday Techno Funny and I love sharing these with you too. We toast you every Friday “Here’s To Our Web Friends“.
This week’s Techno Funny is for the more ‘mature’ among us that remember and probably used Typewriters at work before companies started transitioning to desktop computers across the office – today that’s expected (and a laptop).
Well, I remember learning to type in High School, it was a fav subject of me and my girlfriends because we learned to type to music (which played on a record player in the corner – 45 singles they were and Michael Jackson was a regular on the turn table).
Who else remembers transitioning to a computer and perhaps your first time using one?
